This site was created to document and celebrate the music genre commonly known as goth — specifically such subgenres as gothic rock, darkwave, deathrock, ethereal wave, and coldwave. The goal is to make it easier for people to discover new goth music that fits their taste and to give more visibility to underrated bands that deserve more attention. In the future, I may expand it to include related styles that don't get much coverage elsewhere — like neoclassical darkwave, broader post-punk, and synthpop — but always with the core focus of the site in mind.

Right now, the main thing you can do is browse bands on the homepage, search for a specific band name, or view some basic info on the band page. That said, there are plenty of features that I hope to implement in the future, including:

Our site is heavily inspired by metal-archives, and our rules for inclusion are very similar to theirs. A band is added if they have at least one predominantly goth album. This may result in some surprising entries being present in our database, but overall I believe this is the best approach to dealing with bands who dabbled with goth at some point but abandoned it later (or vice versa).

The database's initial content is filled with data from discogs, to whom I express my gratitude for exposing their API.
